Went to see the West-End play, “The woman in black”. Was really not what I had expected. The whole play is performed by 2 actors playing every role (with cameos from THE woman in black of course.) I felt it was really innovative. The premise being that the main protagonist has hired an actor in order to help him tell his traumatic story of his encounter with the woman in black. In order to do so the actor devises a theatrical performance whereby he, himself plays the part of the man and the man (who in the play has no acting experience) takes on all of the other roles in the story. It really becomes a play within a play, almost like in a Midsummer Night’s Dream. The first parts of the play take place with a very basic set and very few props. It provided me with much food for thought in considering how best I might convey all of the places and situations in my production with minimal props and also the set and stage limitations that are an inevitable part of the venue in which it will take place.
